Lisa Tomlinson has a few phrases to live by that come from her Dad. They are: “Don’t tailgate,” “Buy low and sell high,” “Land is the only thing that lasts,” “Mind your manners, but don’t ever back down,” “Don’t forget to talk to God” and “Always call your Daddy before bedtime.”It is her father, David Tomlinson, and a few special ladies, including her mother, Anne Tomlinson and grandmothers, who molded Tomlinson, an eighth-generation Wilson Countian into the spectacular and successful woman she is today.Tomlinson was raised and continues to live on the family farm at Tomlinson Place in the Centerville Community of Wilson County. She is a 1996 graduate of Lebanon High School, a 2000 graduate of Cumberland University and a 2005 graduate of Nashville School of Law.In 2003, Tomlinson worked as a reporter for The Wilson Post for the summer.”I was burned out with law school and I didn’t want to clerk that summer,” she remembered. “Sam Hatcher and the Bryan brothers (John and Tommy) put me to work writing and reporting on all sorts of stories and (former editor) Jennifer Horton taught me how to make a story shine.”It was during that summer that she covered the tragic deaths of Sgt. Jerry Mundy and Wilson County Sheriff’s Deputy John Musice and the preliminary court proceedings for Fallon Tallent, who was responsible for their untimely deaths. “By the time I went back to school that fall I knew with absolute certainty that my place was in the courtroom as an attorney.”Tomlinson is of counsel at MacPherson & Youmans in Lebanon, where her primary focus is domestic law, criminal defense and juvenile court matters. “The best part of my job is working with people I love and who love me in return. I have great co-workers in my office and for the most part, the entire legal system in the district from the judges, clerks, fellow attorneys and law enforcement make my job very fulfilling,” she said. “I have the autonomy to take on the cases and causes that interest me and my clients know that I am going to take care of them.”Tomlinson is currently serving as the President of the 15th Judicial District Bar Association serving Jackson, Macon, Smith, Trousdale and Wilson Counties. Her tenure began in January 2014 and will conclude in December 2014. “It has been one of the greatest experiences of my life,” she said, adding that she has also served one year terms as secretary and vice president, respectively.When she isn’t working on a case, Tomlinson loves to cook, travel – and of course, shop. She is also the vice-chair for the 15th Judicial Child Advocacy Center and stays active in politics.The women she most admires are her mother and two grandmothers. “My mother, Anne Tomlinson, is the greatest woman you’ll ever meet. She taught me every lesson that a Godly mother should teach their only child,” she said.Tomlinson noted that her maternal grandmother Flo Ann Buehler was the “strongest, funniest, most special lady” she has ever known and that her paternal grandmother, Nettie Lemons Tomlinson, was the “quintessential southern lady” who instilled in her a love for wearing pearls at all times and being unapologetically herself.Her prayers for the future are “peace, love and continued success.””I am certain that my future will definitely include precious family and friends, great shoes, good wine and comfortable rocking chairs with a perfect view of my little place in the world.”
